Animal Sculptures Depicting The Devastating Effects Of Ocean

Last year, I created a unique series of marine animal sculptures using crepe paper and recycled materials. This project aims to raise awareness about the urgent threats facing our oceans and the diverse wildlife within them.

The oceans, home to up to 10 million species, are under severe pressure from pollution, overfishing, acidification, resource extraction, and the climate crisis. These challenges disrupt the delicate balance of marine ecosystems.

Crafted with care, each sculpture combines wire, hand-dyed crepe paper, and reclaimed elements, symbolizing the impact of human activities on marine life. To highlight the plastic issue, I also crafted paper-cut illustrations.

Thanks to an artist grant from NRW Corona aid, this project underscores the vital role art plays in addressing environmental concerns.

Animals often mistake plastic for food, leading them to ingest it. This can result in situations where they experience starvation despite having a full belly or face suffocation. Additionally, the sharp edges of the plastic pose a significant risk, potentially causing severe injuries.

Just 9% of the total plastic ever produced undergoes the recycling process.

Microplastics, tiny particles of plastic, pose particular challenges and concerns.

Decline, Minimize, Repurpose, and Recycle. Each small action makes a difference!
