Nature has a distinct ability to create indelible imprints in our memories, prompting us to inquire with Ward about specific moments or locations in nature that have left a lasting impression on her. In response, the photographer conveyed that each place she has visited has contributed to a lasting impact, offering unique experiences and memories at every destination.
“Every location possesses its beauty and magic,” she reflected. “There will always be something to experience and connect with. If I had to highlight a couple of places, one that stands out is a region called Moreton Bay in Queensland, Australia. I used to frequent a particular river where an Osprey would hunt. For about two years, I made a daily pilgrimage to this spot and had the privilege of closely observing this majestic creature and its habits. It was a delightful experience learning about its behavior, and over time, it seemed to acclimate to my presence.
I vividly recall one instance when I spent four hours in the same position, submerged in the water, balancing on slippery rocks with bare feet, all while holding up a monopod and my substantial camera gear. The concern of accidentally dropping my equipment into the water added a touch of humor. Despite enduring cramps and insect bites, I was determined not to miss a single moment. The bond that developed, with the Osprey seemingly trusting me and allowing a close approach, added an exciting dimension to the experience. This period of observation taught me valuable lessons in patience and living in the moment. It also spurred me to delve deeper into researching and understanding Ospreys, solidifying them as one of my favorite birds of prey.
Another enchanting place that holds a special allure is Norway; however, that’s a tale for another day, perhaps!”
