The Unique Bond Between Ostriches And Orphaned Elephant Baby

They say companions come in all shapes and sizes… Jotto the child elephant was fair 1-month-old when he fell within the well and isolated from his group. David Sheldrick Natural Life Believe (DSWT) took him to an elephant shelter in Kenya where he may mend until he was prepared to go back to the wild. Small did the rescuers know that indeed even though there was a bounty of elephants at the protect, Jotto ended up BFF with… an ostrich named Pea!

Pea was protected back in 2014, when the staff went to spare a child elephant and found the birdie and her ostrich brother Unit in require of offer assistance, as well. They were taken to the elephant shield. Case has returned to the wild and joined wild ostriches, but Pea remains with the elephants, feeling totally at home.

In a heartening revelation, the David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust (DSWT) shared that the stranded ostrich named Pea has seamlessly integrated herself into the elephant community, with little Jotto expressing sheer delight in embracing his feathered companion in warm, affectionate snuggles. This endearing connection between disparate species underscores the profound bonds that can be forged in unexpected circumstances.

This week, the DSWT unveiled these beautifully delicate moments captured at the Nairobi Nursery. Here, not only Pea and Jotto but numerous other orphaned animals are provided with a sanctuary where they can heal both physically and emotionally. The nurturing environment ensures that these vulnerable beings, including the ostrich and elephants alike, receive the care and attention they need to thrive.

As the orphans undergo a transformative journey of recovery, the ultimate goal of the DSWT is to prepare them for a seamless reintroduction to the wild when the time is right. These heartwarming narratives serve as a testament to the organization’s commitment to fostering not only the physical well-being but also the emotional resilience of these precious creatures, paving the way for a hopeful future in their natural habitats.
